Here’s the background on what finally prompted me to blog again…It starts with the month of June being Open Enrollment month for our health insurance at work. Without explaining the entire process, just know that it’s lots and lots of work which mainly falls on me. Last year I had only been working there 3 weeks before this process started and it was a total nightmare. I got through it but was determined to make this year’s open enrollment run smoothly. It did.
At the same time, my boss and I were planning an anniversary shin-dig for the company’s 5th anniversary, which fell on the last Saturday of June. And a co-worker on maternity leave left me half her job while she’s out—not difficult, but time-consuming and requiring uninterrupted concentration. The moral of the story is that I was up to my ears in paperwork and planning. Ten days before the party I told my husband that I was buckling down until the party. The next 10 days were going to mean no cheese, no PB&J and a minimum of one hour of spinning in the morning and a half hour of stairs in the evening. And that following morning I woke up with a sore throat and things went downhill from there.
I haven’t been that sick for years. My office mates thought I was going to die. And I wanted to. The weird thing is that not one single person around me had been sick recently, and no one got sick afterward either. I have no clue where I got it. I still went to work every day because I had so much to do that missing a day would have risked the party plans (and I had no sick time). Well, I got through it. The party was a huge success and my hubby and I reached our 10th anniversary (wow, we’re getting old) shortly after.
So today was my day to begin my exercise program after a good month or so off. The same shoes I danced in all night in with no pain were like vises today. I choked on a Gas-X before lunch. (Seriously, I’m getting old.) My cell phone, which sometimes goes days without an incoming call, was ringing off the hook as I came home on the train. Luckily my dad was calling to remind me of the
But I made it. It was finally a good thing that KO never installed the TVs they touted because the scores weren’t ruined for me at the gym. Jenn said something about Mercury crossing a moon or rising or something like that, and that she’s surprised I’m not a Taurus. I don’t know what that means, but when I got home and turned on the Sub-20 game with only minutes to go, it ended in a tie…and then 10 minutes later Adu was rocking the passes and the recording ended, but the overtime had not. Felt like my blood pressure was rising. But the
But it’s 7-11. I had a free Slurpee today. And I feel wonderful.
